SHORTTASK.COM IS THE NEWEST SCAM WEBSITE BY ANDREW HARRISON BARNES

A. Harrison Barnes: "Scoundrel in Chief"

Bottom line, StortTask.com is a scam. Its owner, A. Harrison Barnes is one of the most prolific scammers on the internet.

While in theory, the stated goal and purpose of ShortTask is a very good business idea, it is not at all unique. The idea was first brought to bear, as far as I know by Mturk.com, a site owned by Amazon. The purpose of MTurk is to pair up those with short-term online gigs for hire or "seekers" with job applicants. Many of the jobs include things such as taking surveys, sampling websites and search engine research.

Barnes, first attempted to use MTurk to drive traffic to his site and post phony endorsements of his scam websites. The people asked to post these endorsements are not people who actually used the site, as they are scam sites. It is widely reported that Barnes was eventually kicked off of MTurk and banned from using it for life after violating its terms of use. Thus, he copied MTurk with ShortTask in 2009. Barnes himself is the biggest "employer" or "seeker" on ShortTask. He is currently using ShortTask to promote his scam sites. I copied and pasted one of his listings:

Instructions: Go to www.EmploymentCrossroads.com

Find the first post on there. Leave a name and email address. Leave a relevant comment for the article of 20-30 words.

Respond by telling me what name you left and get rewarded for your hit.

The main purpose of Barnes' "tasks" on ShortTask is to get people to post false endorsements of his scam websites. By doing so, it causes postings on other blogs and websites to fall down in the search engine listings related to him, thereby making him and his scam sites seem legit. Therefore, when someone tries to look up relevant info on Barnes or his scam sites, the first thing that comes up is the numerous more current postings of him which are no doubt positive, since he is offering to pay individuals to post them.

Many of the names of the individuals making positive comments about Barnes are false names and aliases and in fact posted by Barnes himself.

The ShortTask website is not worth using because:

1. When you post an endorsement of a website you have not used, you are lying and may be opening yourself to legal liability to complicity to Barnes' fraud;

2. The amount of money you are offered amounts to pennies (5cents per posting in most cases), which means you will literally have to spend hours on the internet posting false advertisements for this scoundrel scam artist before you make any appreciable money. If I told you I had a great job for you that you could do at home, but it only paid .60 cents pers hour, would you think it was a great job, or a waste of time?

3. You don't get paid a dime until you accumulate $50. The amount of time you will have to spend on the internet posting false endorsements before you get a check is astronomical. You could make better money begging for nickels outside of your local Kroger. Plus that would carry less criminal liability.

4. Finally, I don't know anyone who has actually gotten paid from the website. Who knows if you ever will be paid regardless of how much work you do. The fact that you are dealing with a scoundrel means at any time, he could pull a major 52 fakeout and not pay you, take money designated for you, or simply fail to acknowlege your account on the system. I could think of a thousand other scenarios Barnes could employ since he is unscrupulous and scandalous. Not that I can prove any of this stuff happened yet, just that when you deal with scoundrels, you get burned.

Chadwick Maynard and Canter Maynard Construction - Central Ohio Labor and Construction Scammers

There is a scammer making his way through the central Ohio area. His name is Chadwick Maynard. His scam involves construction work and painting.

Chad once was associated with a fictitious company called "InTouch Painting". This name is not incorporated and has no business license or official designation, which is why I refer to it as fictitious. Chad Maynard, an Ohio scammer operated this business which purported to provided painting services. He got most of his business by advertising painting services on Craigslist and by scouring craigslist for individuals who need work done on their homes or properties. The fact, though is: Chadwick Maynard is a scammer.

Chad, through the name "InTouch" painting was able to finagle a sub-contract to paint the interior and interior of the newest dorm on the campus of the Ohio State University. To do this job, he needed a crew of about 8 people. Chad advertised on Craigslist and responded to adds for individuals who were looking for labor gigs. Once he had his crew in place, the work was done at breakneck speed. Chad promised the individuals working for him that he would pay them every two weeks. These laborers had no idea that Chad had no real training or experience in the painting and construction business or that he had no legal entity by which to hire them. After working 60 hour weeks for over a month, these workers, were still not paid. Chad attempted to keep them aboard until the entire project was over by telling the workers that he had not been paid by the general contractor yet and that when he was paid, he would in fact pay them. It was later learned by the workers that the general contractor had paid Chad twice during the course of that month. Chad kept all of the money for himself and attempted to allay the workers' anger with promises of future work and increased pay. Tired of waiting for payment, the workers began to hear rumors of Chad's scandals and all quit within the same week. Without skipping a beat, Chad was back on Craigslist, soliciting more workers and promising payment every two weeks. In this way, Chad was able to get the entire project finished and pocket ALL the money paid by the general contractor for the work, without paying a single employee a dime.

On a separate contract, Chad responded to a Craigslist ad to paint the exterior of a home. According the arraignment, Chad through his fake company "InTouch Painting" was to paint the home while the homeowner was as work during the day. Chad requested half of the money to be paid upfront and monies for the purchase of the paint supplies. Chad promptly pocketed the advance payment, pocketed the monies for supplies, and burglarized the inside of the home, which he was never supposed to enter, leaving the owner of home high and dry.

Chad has been convicted of Felony Breaking and Entering as a result of his activities and was sentenced to at least six months incarceration. The case was brought in the Franklin County Common Pleas Court, in Franklin County Ohio. That case number is: 00 CR 5572. You may view the public record by going to that website.

He has also been convicted of criminal trespass, petty theft, and burglary over 10 times and spanning several jurisdictions and states. He has served more than 4 years in prison and is currently on parole.

Recently, Chad Maynard started a new entity since his old fictitios name had received so much attention and had been publicly exposed. His new entity is called CANTER MAYNARD CONSTRUCTION.

This name is not incorporated, bonded, licensed or legitimate. He is using this name likely to continue his criminal career in the scam business. Watch out for Chad Maynard and Canter Maynard Construction!!!!

Sheriff's Deputies Sabotage Prisoner's Sandwich With HIV Infected Penis. Ohio Fraternal Order of Police Support Deputies.

I refuse to let this story die. This was vile, disgusting and inhumane, and that is putting it lightly. It is was not like the prisoner had another food option, so he HAD to eat what his jailers brought him.

The worst parts of this story is that:
1)The most serious crime these officers have been charged with is dereliction of duty, a misdemeanor;

2)The Ohio FOP, which is funded in large part by citizens' donations, is supporting these officers, paying for their legal representation, and, get this, demanding that the Sheriff rehire these deputies. (They were fired immediately). Justice seekers are planning a protest of the Ohio FOP headquaters so citizens will know how the FOP is spending its coffers..

From the Courthouse News Service:

COLUMBUS, Ohio (CN) - A jail inmate claims Franklin County sheriff's deputies fed him a bologna sandwich after forcing another inmate, who has HIV and hepatitis C, to put his penis on the sandwich, and photographed it. The inmate, who is black, says the deputies, who are white, taunted him and showed him the photo after he ate the sandwich. Plaintiff Joseph Copeland, who is black, sued jailers Joseph Cantwell and Philip Barnett and Sheriff Jim Karnes, all of whom are white. Copeland claims that Cantwell forced inmate Todd Triplett, who is black, to "place his penis on the bologna sandwich." When Triplett refused, Cantwell told him, "Put your dick on the sandwich or I'll put you in the hole," according to the complaint in Franklin County Court. "Inmate Triplett, out of fear complied and at that time a photograph was taken of the act with a cell phone." Copeland says Copeland and Barnett then handed him the sandwich, and after he ate it, "Copeland and Barnett showed the picture of Triplett's penis on the sandwich to plaintiff Copeland and asked, 'How does Triplett's dick taste?'" Then they laughed at him and humiliated him, he says. Triplett sued the same defendants in May, making the same allegations. Copeland claims that the "defendants, all white males, targeted plaintiff because of his race and being an African American and due to his mental disability and handicap." He demands punitive damages for assault and civil rights violations. He is represented by Javier Armengau. Here is Courthouse News' May 12 story on Triplett's lawsuit. Deputies Accused of Playing Cruel Trick

(CN) - A jail inmate claims two Franklin County Sheriff's deputies forced him to place his penis on an open bologna sandwich so the deputies could photograph it, and that the two then fed the sandwich to another inmate, and then taunted the man with the photo. Todd Triplett, who is black, sued the county, Sheriff Jim Karnes, and Deputy Joseph Cantwell, who allegedly ordered him to put his penis on the sandwich and photographed it with his cell phone, and Deputy Phillip Barnett, who allegedly held the sandwich for the photograph. Triplett demands damages for civil rights violations and assault and battery. He is represented in Franklin County Court by Byron Potts.

Prisoner sues over tainted sandwich

By Bruce Cadwallader
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
The Franklin County commissioners and Sheriff Jim Karnes were named in a $3 million civil-rights lawsuit filed yesterday by a jail prisoner who was fed a tainted sandwich by deputies.
Javier Armengau filed the suit in Common Pleas Court on behalf of his client, Joseph Copeland Jr., who is in the Downtown jail awaiting trial on aggravated-robbery charges.

According to the lawsuit, deputies Joseph Cantwell and Phillip Barnett forced a prisoner to rub his penis on a bologna sandwich, then took the sandwich to Copeland and asked how it tasted after he ate it. Cantwell has admitted taking a photo of the February incident on a cell phone.
Karnes fired the two deputies in May; Cantwell faces criminal prosecution.

Both Cantwell and Barnett are defendants in Copeland's suit. They and the same county officials also have been sued by the other prisoner, Todd Triplett, who says he was coerced and harassed while he was incarcerated.

According to Copeland's lawsuit, Cantwell and Barnett knew that Triplett was in a medical-seclusion ward with the HIV virus and hepatitis C.

"It was the purpose and intent of the defendants to cause Plaintiff Copeland to contract the HIV virus and contract Hepatitis C," the lawsuit says.

Copeland is seeking $1 million in compensatory damages and $2 million in punitive damages. He alleges civil-rights violations and physical harm due to felonious assault, attempted murder and abuse of process.

Both fired deputies have retained lawyers. The Fraternal Order of Police is representing them in their fight for their jobs.

A. Harrison Barnes, King of Internet Scammers

This is how A. Harrison Barnes, an inane, wiley lawyer, stole a fortune on the internet.

A. Harrison Barnes attended undergraduate school at the University of Chicago and Law School at the University of Virginia. After law school, he claims to have clerked for a federal judge and worked at major law firms in NY and California because started BCG, his recruiting company. None of his resume can be confirmed since Barnes has created a sophisticated facade of qualifications, plagarized publications and phony endorsements of his work using aliases and internet anonymity.

BCG Search and BCG Attorney search are companies started by A. Harrison Barnes and are probably legit in most respects. The companies try to find top ranked talent for top ranked companies and law firms. Simple enough. BCG is only as effective as most other companies in the same business and not as effective as a well established companies like Robert Half. The biggest problem with BCG is it's founder A. Harrison Barnes and the fact that he uses the internet to make ridiculous claims about himself and his businesses. He crosses the line, so easily from legitmate marketing to outright lying, therefore scamming.

Here how Barnes scams people. First, in order to make a profit on all of the thousands of resumes Barnes was receiving, but could not place, Barnes created Legal Authority. Legal Authority. The people at legal authority propose to fix up your resume for you and tell you and give you the names of companies in your area. This is your basic resume service and they are not even noted for being that good. These people that are screwing up people's resumes are not trained in human resources and are not lawyers. You would be better off doing your own resume. Legal Authority could be legit, but for the fact that scoundrel Barnes has infected the air around that company by making ridiculous claims that the company markets individuals. They basically red ink your resume and hand you a local phone book. Barnes calls that "marketing you" to companies in your area. What baloney!! You can get your resume fixed for free and probably do a much better job that the sub-par "writers" employed by Barnes. Again, with Barnes, his deception is primarily in his marketing.

Barnes, needing a way to profit from people he knew he couldn't help and also needing a way to prop up Legal Authority's juvenile business plan, wanted to monetize the process of receiving resumes from people. To do this, he started Juriscape, Lawcrossing, changed to employmentscape, now careermission.com. To that site, Barnes added a phony jobs database whereby a job seeker may search for jobs on the database, and view jobs he or she may want to apply for. The reason I refer to the employmentscape job database as phony, first, because Barnes stole most of the listings from other databases such as Lexis, Westlaw, Monster and some lesser known databases and, secondly because Barnes has no relationship with the companies listing the jobs and is not even authorized to list the job. Therefore, when the job is filled or no longer available, Barnes and his employmentscape people have no way of knowing so they can discontinue the listing. Barnes began charging people a fee to send him their resume with the promise of employment. Some of Barnes sites when so far as to guarantee placement. This is the primary reason many people believe Barnes websites are scams. Because after you pay to join, and you find an announcement on the job board that you want to apply for, there is at least a 60% chance that the job no longer exists or is outdated. Barnes needs to keep these jobs listed in order to inflate the size of his database.

To aid his sceme, Barnes created numerous websites specifically geared towards professionals of every broadly defined industry. Some examples are "accounting crossing.com" and "counselingcrossing.com". The titles of these sites, by themselves, imply that Barnes has some special or specific information in those area, even though he does not. Those sites take you to the same stinky employmentscape database, with those same stinky outdated jobs from which you couldn't find a current opening in the first place. Since you are able to search the database without applying or paying any fee, and since Barnes or the company has no relationship with the company writing the announcment, there is no relationship between searching he database and paying a fee.

There is a "quick-apply" button on the website containing the databse. That alone is deceptive because it implies that by applying through Barnes' site, your resume will go to the company and that simply isn't true.

The next way that weasal A. Harrison Barnes scams you is by billing your credit card every month even though that stinky database doesn't get any better, by making it almost impossible to cancel. There are numerous people who signed up for Barnes' sceme, only to be stuck, unable to cancel, while Barnes siphoned off hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars from their accounts every month.

Barnes perverted the reputation of BCG by collecting applicants' email information and using to it spam them with his other 150 websites. I put the question to Barnes directly:"Do you think that when a person sends you their resume in response to a position you advertise on one website, they are giving you permission to send constantly send them advertisements from your other hundred fifty websites?" "No." Said Barnes, before going on to explain some completely unrelated point.

So now Barnes has sued American Maestro and is publishing the fact all over the internet. What a joke!!!? I assume this is his way of beating back all the negative press he has been getting over his suspect business activities. Does Barnes think he is really going to win this lawsuit? Does he expect A.M. to ever stop telling the truth about him? A.M. is gearing up for the next part of this battle.

But, Barnes' buckethead lawyer is apparently trying to take a shot a A.M. in his Complaint by stating, paraphrased: "American Maestro writes he knows everything, apparently he does not." I'd like to see you prove that, Pauly...and while your at it, prove you are really a lawyer. Barnes' Complaint is not just funny, but woefully and unethically false. His lawyer tries to portray A.M. as being some sort of obsessed stalker who "jumped in his car to drive to Chicago on a Friday morning", even though he fails to mention that Barnes invited A.M., then tried to cancel after A.M. accepted. Lawyer Pauly also attaches an e-mail from A.M. to his complaint suggesting A.M. apologized.

In fact, A.M. did apologize for saying that Barnes' database was created rather than stolen. If you recall, A.M. had written that Barnes' database has invented jobs on it. I later discovered that although the jobs were at one time real, that Barnes had no contact with the company or no permission to list the job and therefore could never monitor whether the job had been filled. Another reason A.M. apologized was because he had listed several individuals as Barnes' co-conspirators. In fact, A.M. learned that Barnes has no co-conspirators...only peoople who refuse to see the obvious working for him.

Bottom line all of the truth is going to come out now. And YOU will be along for the ride. In the meantime, watch out for A. Harrison Barnes and stay away from his scam websites:
